Social Media Managers rejoice!! Instagram made a highly demanded (and long overdue) change to the way its users post to the platform. Instagram will now allow business profiles to schedule and auto post their content. No more push notifications! This new update will be a big time saver, and frankly a huge stress reliever, when it comes to pre scheduling your content.
Hootsuite and Sprout Social – two of our favorite social media tools – have partnered with Instagram for this update. Besides those often missed push notifications and alarm settings, the only support social media managers got from Instagram was their Draft feature, which was honestly not any better in terms of efficiency. Once logged into the third party platform it will prompt you to reconnect your business profiles to allow scheduling and autoposting on the Instagram app. As with any new feature that rolls out, there will be some kinks to work through. Just be patient and know that it will all be worth it!
For now, Instagram scheduling is only allowed through third-party applications like Hootsuite and Sprout Social. It is also not allowed for personal profiles but we have heard rumors that could roll out in 2019. If scheduling and organization is important for your business, we recommend looking into getting a subscription. It is hard to say how long it will take before this feature is offered without a third party, but they did say such limitations will not be forever.
As a team, we use Hootsuite for scheduling our content on our various platforms, both for ourselves and our clients. It has a lot of awesome features including optimal posting time capabilities and the convenience of having everything in one place. We love it.
We use Sprout Social mainly for gathering reports but they have the same features as Hootsuite allowing drafts, scheduling queues and approvals in the platform. Both third party sites also have mobile apps that allow you to check in on your content.
If you decide to take advantage of one of these programs and have questions feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or set up time for an Instagram strategy session for your business!
